The Bessa Project

A couple of months after I kicked off this project, all photos are taken! This project was more of a personal challenge where anything that came out of this camera would be considered some sort of success. Little did I realise, that MOST of that came out of the camera would be considered a success!

This Voigtländer Bessa is the 1930s version and as you would imagine has ZERO automated functionality. Everything from measuring the light, calculating the distance and then configuring the camera was totally manual. Sadly, this meant that the first round of photos I did were not correctly focused due to a stupid mistake on my part, but this was later corrected and although not perfect, the results I managed to get were actually pretty decent!

Still a ways to go with regards to “perfecting” the use of this camera, especially in terms of portraits, but overall, pretty satisfied with the results!

A big, big thanks to all of those who participated in this project. It took a while to get over the line due to all the development and learning involved, but here’s what we have to show for it!
