Yashica 35 MF

This little Yashica, the first “point and shoot” style of this manufacturer had seen better days. It had a big dent in the top, the glass at the front was moving around inside the top cover and honestly, I didn’t expect it to work at all.

However, I threw in a couple of AA batteries, popped up the flash and was delighted to hear the capacitors charging. Pressed the button, saw a big flash of light, followed by the reassuring sound of the shutter (a very satisfying one) and film advance winding onwards. It was at this point, I decided that I needed to grab it and do what I can to bring it back into shape.

Top cover came off easily, managed to get the metal straightened out and re-adhered the glass to the front panel. The only thing that’s not working properly is the shot counter, but I can live with that!

A 70’s gem. Meters well and shoots perfectly. Shame I struggle with range focusing as this thing is manual focus, as the “MF” would suggest.
