FED 3

I picked up this FED-3 (Type B) at a flea market in Negreni. I probably paid a little more than planned, but the condition was exceptional for a Soviet rangefinder of this age.

Once home, I discovered the rangefinder needed recalibration. Thankfully, the mechanism was in good enough shape to allow for precise adjustment, and after running a test roll through the camera, the results were spot on, with accurate focus and consistent exposures.

The FED-3 Type B is a fully mechanical 35 mm rangefinder using the M39 Leica Thread Mount, most commonly paired with the Industar-26M 50 mm f/2.8. Its longer rangefinder base and inclusion of slow shutter speeds make it more usable than earlier FED models when properly set up.

It is not a refined camera, but once sorted, it is solid, dependable, and capable of producing very pleasing results.
